Welcome to ECO Week!

If you missed the first two events of ECO Week, a hike in Harriman State Park, and a film screening of Racing Extinction, don’t fret, we have lots of great activities and workshops planned throughout the week. Read on for more details.

ECO’s Zero Waste Workshop
Maria Ortiz, Program Manager of the Bureau of Recycling and Sustainability will give an educational workshop on proper recycling and waste reduction and will discuss the Bureau’s policy goals and impacts.WhenMon, Sept 211:00-2:00pm

Where: Lerner Hall, Room 572 (Music Practice Room)

ECO’s Introduction to GIS Workshop
When: 1:00 to 3:00pm
Where: Lehman Library
Details: Facilitated by a GIS expert from Columbia’s Digital Social Science Center, this is a 2 hour introduction to what GIS is and how we can use it in an environmental policy context. We are now at full capacity for this event.

ECO Skypes DC: GIS Experts at World Resources Institute
ECO Skypes is a networking event series that connects SIPA students with alumni and environmental policymakers outside of NYC. Small groups of students (10-12) are invited to participate in these group informational interviews on a first-come basis. Join ECO for a discussion of environmental applications of GIS with experts at World Resources Institute. Susan Minnemeyer and Asa Strong map real changes in global forest cover with a GIS tool called Global Forest Watch.
When: 1:00 – 2:00pm
